Last 5-digits are used to identify the Branch. And 3-digits before the Branch Number are used to identify Financial Institution.

As a rule
  • For Banks, Institution Numbers start with 0, 2, 3, or 6
  • For Credit Union & Caisse Populaire, Institution Numbers start with 8
  • For Trust Company, Institution Number start with 5

Transit Number (MICR Number)

Transit Number is also known as MICR Number (Magnetic Ink Character Recognition).
MICR Number is written on the bottom of checks identifying Financial Institution.
